I think there will be something of a market for a policing / MH qualification ... not least because CPD for police mental health leads is being recommended by the Adebowale Report. I've looked for years to find a qualification of something kind that would legitimse or validate me because I'm conscious that after all the work I've done I am still, ultimately, someone who is quite unqualified in this area of business - I have a university education to Master's level, but nothing specific and technical around policing, mental health and criminal justice and I'd love to be part of developing and doing something. Some kind of distance learning LLM or MSc in forensic mental health law, for example. Happy to discuss further - and I'll also reply to your email.

Apologies for the delay, had a frantic week including journeying up and down the country and my car's engine turbo exploding hte middle of the right, bringing organisational choas to holiday plans! Hence my request to bear with me!

"what are MH trusts business continuity plans for situations where their s136 PoS is out of commission?" From personal experience fairly recently when the Section 136 suite was closed for refurbishment near to a well known suicide spot as usual the POS was the local custody centre. As far as I know there had been no attempt to think about an alternative as more often than not the police cell is used anyway given that probably there is a higher than average section 136 handed out because of the location.

Thanks for the feedback - I originally just hoped it helped some officers navigate their way through the woods. The added bonus is that other professionals and patients seem to find value in it and that's been the most surprising part of it doing it. :-)

Interesting! - first example I've come across and I'm glad to hear it, although some of my networking ahead of making the statement was with student paramedics in university courses. Obviously regional differences apply - very apt ahead of a career in the NHS! :-)

This is partially wrong. I'm studying BSc Paramedic Science. We have a 5 week complex care module about acute treatment of paediatric, maternity and mental health patients in our third year as well as numerous workshops with mental health service users throughout the degree. Not all paramedics on the road are graduate paramedics therefore you would be right in saying some don't have the training. But some of us do!

I am studying BSc Paramedic Science at Canterbury Christ Church. We have a 5 week complex practice module in our third year studying paediatric, maternity and mental health pre-hospital treatment. Additionally, the treatment of those with mental health issues is a regular reference throughout the course, with a good knowledge of the legal aspects of treatment as well as the clinical. There are a number of workshops run by or attended by mental health service users of local trusts throughout the degree.
